What actually is my job?

I get asked quite a few times: what exactly do you do?

The short answer is this: I help families have an AMAZING birth and postpartum.

The long answer is this: I support families in my birth classes through evidence based and up to date curriculum. I teach you things like comfort measures to use during labor and pregnancy, healthy eating and exercises for pregnancy and beyond, how and why to relax, labor and pushing positions, how to choose a care provider that is right for you, what to expect for labor and postpartum, and so much more.

I support families emotionally and physically during labor and birth as a birth doula. I have a knowledge of the birth process that not most partners have. Therefore, I can help the laboring mom in ways that her partner, best friend, mom, sister, etc. might not be able to. I work with the partner to provide the best support that the laboring mom needs. Every family is different and needs different things. Not all births look the same nor do they require the same type of support.

I support families during the postpartum period in a variety of ways. Some families need overnight support so they can get better sleep. Some families need daytime support while the partner is at work or is taking care of other children in the home. That support looks different for every family. Sometimes, that support looks like cooking light meals and doing light housework like laundry or dishes. Sometimes, that support looks like feeding or rocking a baby while Mom takes a shower or a nap.

Because each family is different, the support I provide will look different. It is customizable for each family and their needs. If you are in need of childbirth classes or birth or postpartum support, let’s chat and see how I can best support you!
